The Positive Side of Ageing
For Fahim, the prospect of ageing is not something to fear but rather an opportunity to embrace life in new ways. “I think I’m looking forward to seeing my children grow older with me,” he shares. As a father of a 10-year-old son and a five-year-old daughter, he looks forward to spending more time with his family, travelling, and pursuing his passions, particularly cycling. “I look forward to having more leisure time, staying active, and engaging in things I enjoy, like reading and cycling.”
Challenges and Concerns About the Future
While there is much to look forward to, Fahim acknowledges that ageing comes with its own set of concerns. “I worry about mobility issues, heart disease, high blood pressure, dementia, arthritis — mainly health concerns,” he admits. Another significant concern for him is loneliness. “I don’t want to be lonely. Seeing older people in the community living alone is something I worry about. I want to stay active and mobile for as long as possible.”
“These projects aren’t just theoretical. They have real-world implications that can improve lives.”
A Platform for Change
Fahim discovered Voice through online research and quickly became intrigued by its mission. “I started doing surveys, and that led to more involvement,” he explains. What drew him in was the opportunity to contribute to meaningful research that could influence policies, products, and services. “I love learning! Research helps me stay informed. It’s also a challenge, and I enjoy sharing my experiences.”
Engaging with Meaningful Projects
One project that stood out to Fahim was research on Artifical Intelligence AI in medical screening. “It helps with early disease detection, like glaucoma screening, and frees up GP time,” he says. He also participated in research on fitness, health, ageing, and disease prevention. “These projects aren’t just theoretical. They have real-world implications that can improve lives.”

The Importance of Listening to Real People
Fahim is a strong advocate for businesses engaging directly with the people they serve. When asked who he would like to address, he singles out Nike. “Nike, listen — you need to work with real people and get their opinions,” he states firmly. “Don’t release a product that isn’t going to work. It’ll hurt you in the long run. Get it right from the start, and you’ll see the results.”

Encouraging Others to Get Involved
To those hesitant about joining Voice, Fahim has a simple yet powerful message, “Join Voice! Let your views be heard. Your input can influence research and make a difference. We are all part of the system.” He also reassures those who might doubt their ability to contribute. “Research isn’t just for academics. Start with a project that interests you. Your opinions matter. Don’t be afraid of technicalities.”
Finding Inspiration in Everyday Life
While there isn’t one specific figure in his local community, Fahim finds inspiration in his fellow cycling instructors. “The way I see it, they’re so far ahead of me in terms of what they’re doing for the community — getting the message out there about cycling, fitness, and health. I’m learning all the time. I feel like I’m still behind, but I’m progressing as I go.”
“I love learning! Research helps me stay informed. It’s also a challenge, and I enjoy sharing my experiences.”
A Legacy to Be Proud Of
“If I make it to 100, I’d be proud of the legacy I leave behind,” Fahim reflects. “I’d want people to remember me for the memories I’ve created. I hope I’ll have touched a lot of lives.” He hopes to still be cycling at that age, continuing to teach and inspire others. “It’s about leaving something meaningful behind. I want to show that I’ve truly lived, not just existed.”
A Message for Younger Generations
To younger generations, Fahim has a compelling piece of advice, “I wish I had started doing the things I do now at a much younger age. When I was younger, this kind of information and knowledge wasn’t as readily available as it is now.” His recommendation? “Find out what your passion is and follow it. Join Voice — it’ll get you there faster.”
As Fahim continues his journey, both on his bike and within the Voice community, his passion for learning, sharing, and making a difference remains unwavering. His story is a powerful example of how real voices shape the future, proving that every perspective matters and that, no matter our age, we all have something valuable to contribute.
